Our extension officers deliver a comprehensive, hands-on curriculum covering every stage of dairy farming — from feeding a newborn calf to reading a milk quality report.

What We Train Farmers On

Eleven core modules covering the full dairy value chain, each paired with a practical, hands-on session.

Feeding & Nutrition

Balanced diets, nutrient requirements, feed types, Total Mixed Ration (TMR), and feeding by production stage.

Calf Rearing

Newborn care, colostrum management, milk feeding, weaning, housing, vaccination and growth monitoring.

Farm Management

Farm planning and layout, labour management, biosecurity, sanitation, and daily routine management.

Record Keeping & Financial Management

Farm and financial records, cost of production, gross margin analysis, budgeting and loan utilization.

Milk Quality, Hygiene & Standards

Clean milk production, milking hygiene, mastitis prevention, cooling, transport, and KDB quality standards.

Fodder Establishment

Site selection, soil testing, suitable fodder species, planting methods, and pest & weed control.

Fodder Preservation

Silage making, hay making, crop residue conservation, and feed storage for the dry season.

Animal Health & Disease Control

Common dairy diseases, parasite control, vaccination programs, biosecurity and disease reporting.

Cow Housing & Comfort

Housing design, ventilation, flooring, bedding, space requirements and heat stress management.

Cow Signals

Reading body condition, feeding & drinking behaviour, rumination, dung scoring and heat detection.

Breeding

Dairy breeds, heat detection, artificial insemination, pregnancy diagnosis and genetic improvement.

Full sessions typically run 1 day; lighter topics such as Farm Management, Record Keeping, Cow Housing and Cow Signals run half a day.

Regular Farm Visits = Personalized Advisory

Our officers conduct personalized farm visits to assess farm practices, advise on animal health, and identify areas for improvement. These visits help build strong farmer relationships and offer practical, on-the-ground solutions that boost farm performance.
